MLO 4: Secondary Cultural Knowledge
In addition to the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, the student demonstrates a general knowledge of a socio-cultural group other than a Hispanic one or mainstream American culture. The student develops a basic understanding of the ways of thinking (ideas, beliefs, attitudes, values, philosophies), the behavioral practices (patterns of social interactions) and the cultural products – both tangible and intangible (for example, art, history, literature, music) – of the second culture.
Jap 308 Japanese pop culture helped me fulfill MLO 4: Secondary Cultural Knowledge. In this class I learned about a second culture other than hispanic or American. Japanese popular culture made me learn a lot of new things about Japan, its popular culture. The knowledge I acquired of Japanese popular culture was done through food, music, customs, anime, manga, social media, etc. I learned about japanese traditional "lunch boxes" called bento boxes. We analyzed several movies, videos, pictures and songs in Japanese in order to comprehend pop culture. We compared most of these concepts to American culture. Through presentations, essays and class discussions I met MLO 4 on this class.
