SPAN 315 Intro Translation Span/Eng
Students perform introductory translation assignments from Spanish to English and vice versa. They develop an understanding of translation theory through reading and class discussion and come to understand communicative translation and compare it to a direct, word-for-word approach. Problematic grammatical, discursive, and pragmatic issues are analyzed and the grammar of Spanish is reviewed in detail.

Span 315 Intro to Translation Span/Eng
This course meets MLO 1: Language Proficiency and MLO 2: Language and Linguistic knowledge. This translation class meets (1.1) and (1.2) because we were asked to participate in class about translating certain texts or articles. We were able to listen to the class lecture and engage in class discussion with the professor and our classmates. (1.3) was met as well because we had to read a lot of texts assigned by our professor to translate them, either from English to Spanish or vice versa. Most of the writings we were assigned to translate to either language were revised during class; the professor went through the text we previously translated in detail and step by step. (1.4) many papers were translated in this class that helped us develop our writing ability. MLO 2 was met by this course as well it deals with advanced grammar, Spanish-English translation, composition and conversation. The main element of this course is Spanish-English translation. In this course we completed many works that demonstrate my development in this area. Some of these translation assignments were pistachios, Quetzal, en ruta a Cuzco and my final paper called “Rock: La Guía escambrosa”. We completed several translation exercises; on those we translated phrases from English to Spanish and vice versa. We saw a presentation from the organization called “MIIS”, it was about translating documents, and live conversations. They informed us about the jobs that we can acquire at MIIS., I gained a lot of knowledge on this course, I learned the different types of translation: traducción literal, modulación, transposición, and traducción libre. I learned the mistakes that can be done during translation. For my final paper I translated part of a book called “Rock: the rough guide” creating a twelve page paper about the history of Rock. I expect to develop further in live conversations, I want to be able to provide a accurate translation as the conversation is going.
